What happens when you combine an award wining songwriter, a Slavic-ly inspired double bassist, one of Melbourne’s finest vocalists, and a lighting fast jazz-folk drummer? You get the passionate, entertaining and inspiring Melbourne band Milk! With gorgeous folk/roots arrangements and vibrant harmonies, their fine musicianship is filled with rollicking energy, humor, and just the right touch of poignancy.
As festival favorites, Milk have made a name for themselves touring the countryside, bringing their unique style to some of Australia’s most loved festivals, including the Tasmanian Cygnet Folk Festival, WA’s Nannup Folk Festival, and Victoria’s Folk Rhythm and Life, as well as many others. With their new album “Shipwrecked at the Royal Oak”, hitting stores this November, the band is packing up the van and preparing to launch out on a national road tour.
Having appeared with performers such as Lisa Miller, Mia Dyson, Rebecca Barnard, Liz Stringer, Dallas Frasca, Kucha Edwards and Ella and Jesse Hooper, Milk have clearly established themselves among some of Australia’s best musicians, generating a reputation for both entertaining and high quality performance.
Also no strangers to radio, the band have played live on nationwide stations, such as Radio National, ABC Radio, and dozens of community stations around the country including Triple R, 3cr and PBS FM.
Hailed as Australia’s answer to Canada’s The Be Good Tanyas, Milk provides us with an unrestrained journey of real Australian music, about truly Australian experiences, through the brilliant harmonies and heart touching tunes we have come to love in this genre, and from this band.
So if you're after music that will give you shivers, pull on your heart strings, have you up and dancing wildly, and inspire you to romantic imaginings, this is the band for you.
